Xabi Alonso Pushes for Kylian Mbappé’s Swift Return to Real Madrid Action

Real Madrid are closely monitoring the recovery of Kylian Mbappé, as head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed the club will try to accelerate the French star’s comeback — without taking unnecessary risks. Speaking ahead of the LaLiga clash against Real Betis, Alonso explained that Mbappé’s physical evolution will determine the timeline, stopping short of guaranteeing his availability for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

“We will evaluate him after each match and assess how he feels,” Alonso said, underlining that Mbappé is always eager to help the team but that the final decision rests with the technical staff.

The Basque manager also made it clear that the club has not been reckless in managing Mbappé’s injury and that the forward will only return when he is in optimal condition. With the Frenchman still sidelined, Alonso highlighted Rodrygo as a reliable attacking alternative, noting that the Brazilian can operate both on the wings and centrally and that he closed the year in excellent form.

Alonso added that Real Madrid have already proven their ability to adapt in similar situations, even using tactical variations deployed in recent tournaments, allowing the team to remain competitive despite key absences. While acknowledging Mbappé’s influence goes far beyond goals, he accepted that injuries are part of the game and expressed confidence in the squad’s depth.

The coach also shared his excitement about the restart of competition after the winter break, praising the positive atmosphere in the dressing room, Vinícius Júnior’s strong mindset, and the return of Dani Carvajal, whose leadership he considers vital for the group.
