Wolves End Their Slump and Hold Manchester United to a Frustrating Draw at Old Trafford

Manchester United failed to build on their recent momentum and dropped more points at home after drawing 1–1 with Wolverhampton on Matchday 19 of the Premier League. The result leaves the Red Devils outside the European qualification spots and deepens concerns about their defensive reliability.

The draw keeps United in sixth place with 30 points, level with Chelsea but behind on goal difference. What looked like an opportunity to climb the table instead became another reminder of the team’s ongoing struggles, especially at the back.

United started with energy and were rewarded before the half-hour mark. In the 27th minute, Joshua Zirkzee scored his first goal at Old Trafford, finishing with his left foot after Ayden Heaven recovered possession high up the pitch. A slight deflection off a defender wrong-footed Wolves goalkeeper Senne Lammens and made it 1–0.

However, the hosts failed to put the game to bed and once again paid for a defensive lapse. Just before halftime, Wolverhampton capitalized on a poorly defended corner kick, as United’s inability to clear their lines allowed the visitors to level the score.

Despite ending 2025 still without a league win and stuck in the relegation zone, Wolves took encouragement from earning a point at Old Trafford, a venue where they had struggled historically. For Manchester United, the stalemate confirmed a worrying trend: Europe remains out of reach for now, and defensive mistakes continue to define a disappointing season.
