Pumas once again fell short of reaching the Liguilla, and the frustration landed squarely on Keylor Navas, who was criticized for mistakes in the Play-In loss to Pachuca. The Costa Rican goalkeeper found himself at the center of public scrutiny and decided to address the situation following his debut season in Liga MX.
In a message posted on social media, Navas acknowledged the team’s disappointing finish and the frustration of being eliminated much earlier than expected. He also admitted that the tournament represented a significant challenge in this new chapter of his career. Navas wrote that the Apertura 2025 was “very special” because it marked his arrival in Mexico, but regretted that the journey ended in the first Play-In round. He said he understands the anger from fans and emphasized that the squad felt the disappointment just as deeply.
While he received criticism throughout the tournament, Navas reinforced that he will continue working to improve and help the team return to the top of the league — something the Pumas fan base has been demanding for over a decade. Rather than distancing himself from the club, Keylor reaffirmed his commitment, saying he remains motivated to continue with Pumas and compete for the title the team hasn’t won since the Clausura 2011.
Navas reminded supporters that he is under contract until 2026 and hinted that his goal remains unchanged: to win a championship before his time with the universitarios comes to an end. With Pumas’ season officially over, Navas and the squad will rest briefly before reporting back to Cantera to prepare for the Clausura 2026 — kicking off on January 9 and presenting Keylor with an immediate chance for redemption.
