Who Is Cruz Medina? The MLS Young Prospect Chivas Wants to Sign

The name Cruz Medina has started to gain serious traction inside Chivas’ front office as one of the club’s priority transfer targets. At just 19 years old, the midfielder has emerged as a key option in Guadalajara’s plan to reinforce the squad with young, high-potential talent that fits the club’s identity.

Born in San Francisco, California, Cruz Medina has Mexican roots and currently belongs to the San Jose Earthquakes. His profile fits perfectly with Chivas’ sporting philosophy, which prioritizes players of Mexican descent who hold dual nationality and project both short- and mid-term value.

Chivas’ interest in Medina is not isolated. The club has closely monitored young MLS prospects in recent years, especially those capable of adapting quickly to Liga MX and competing across multiple midfield roles. Medina stands out for his versatility, as he can operate as a holding midfielder or move into more advanced attacking positions. His game intelligence and ability to distribute the ball make him an appealing option for head coach Gabriel Milito.

The information was reinforced by MLS insider Tom Bogert of The Athletic, who reported that Chivas is nearing an agreement to bring in Cruz Medina on a loan deal with a purchase option.

If finalized, the plan would see Medina begin his process with CD Tapatío, Chivas’ reserve side, in order to ease his adaptation to the pace, intensity, and structure of Mexican football.

From a tactical standpoint, Medina shares traits with other recent Guadalajara signings. His ability to break defensive lines with the ball, maintain possession under pressure, and occupy attacking spaces profiles him as a modern central midfielder.

At only 19 years old, Cruz Medina represents a long-term investment in Chivas’ future. The club continues to double down on young talent with Mexican identity, and the San Jose Earthquakes prospect is shaping up to become one of the next major stories to follow at Verde Valle.
