When Will Israel Reyes Return for Club América After Injury Setback?

The Mexico national team has once again left consequences in Coapa. Club América defender Israel Reyes was forced off the field in the 33rd minute of the friendly against Bolivia, immediately raising concern within the América camp.

This Tuesday, following the return of national team players called up by Javier Aguirre, América confirmed that Reyes will not be available for Saturday’s match against Necaxa, adding another absence to a tournament start already affected by multiple injuries.

Medical examinations conducted in Coapa confirmed the diagnosis. Reyes is dealing with a muscle injury to the right external oblique and serratus anterior—areas located along the side of the abdomen and chest wall—which explains the discomfort he showed before being substituted.

The injury occurred during the match against Bolivia, even before he was taken off. Reyes was visibly uncomfortable during the hydration break and shortly afterward requested to be substituted, sparking immediate concern for both El Tri and Club América.

Although the player initially sought to reassure fans on social media by posting, “It looks like everything’s fine, my people,” medical evaluations confirmed that rest and targeted treatment will be necessary to avoid a relapse.

The club did not disclose the exact severity of the injury, but the estimated recovery timeline ranges from two to four weeks—a window that could sideline Reyes for several key fixtures.

In addition to missing the match against Necaxa, Israel Reyes is at risk of sitting out the Concacaf Champions Cup series against Olimpia, the Matchday 5 clash with Monterrey, and even the Clásico Nacional against Guadalajara.

At Coapa, the race is on to get the defender back as soon as possible. The coaching staff remains hopeful that his recovery will progress favorably and allow Reyes to return sooner than expected in a demanding schedule that leaves little room for error.
