Weston McKennie Remains Juventus’ Standout Player After Champions League Heroics

Weston McKennie once again proved to be one of Juventus’ most important players this Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League, scoring in a 2–0 victory over Benfica at the Allianz Stadium. The result was crucial for the Italian club, pushing them closer to qualification for the round of 16. With this goal, the American midfielder has now scored in three consecutive Champions League matches this season.

Juventus, managed by Luciano Spalletti, took the lead through a goal from Khéphren Thuram before McKennie doubled the advantage. The U.S. international finished calmly after a well-worked combination with teammate Jonathan David, sealing a convincing win for the bianconeri. The victory guaranteed Juventus at least a place in the Champions League playoffs and kept them in contention for direct qualification to the round of 16, as they now sit on 12 points in the group stage.

McKennie continues to establish himself as a key figure for Juventus, not only because of his goals but also due to his consistent performances in one of Europe’s most demanding competitions. His strike against Benfica marked his third straight Champions League match with a goal, following earlier finishes against Bodø/Glimt and Pafos—an impressive scoring run rarely achieved by midfielders at the club in recent seasons.

Beyond his goals, McKennie has delivered a complete midfield performance, contributing with high pressing, intelligent ball distribution, and decisive forward runs. His all-around impact has been vital to Spalletti’s tactical setup during this stretch of the campaign. With qualification nearly secured and his form at a high level, McKennie looks set to remain a central figure as Juventus aims to progress deep into the Champions League knockout rounds.
