Wayne Rooney Warns Tottenham Are Just One Step Away from Relegation

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United legend and current football pundit, has sounded the alarm over Tottenham Hotspur’s situation in the Premier League 2025–26 season, stating that the club is now in a real relegation battle following a worrying run of results.

Rooney warned that, given Tottenham’s current form and league position, the club cannot rule out the possibility of relegation unless there is an immediate turnaround. He pointed out that teams such as West Ham and Nottingham Forest are picking up points and closing the gap dangerously.

The former England captain made his comments on The Wayne Rooney Show, where he analyzed Spurs’ downturn, noting that the club has gone seven matches without a win and has steadily slipped down the table, finding itself far closer to the relegation zone than anyone anticipated.

Rooney also highlighted the damaging 2–0 defeat to Manchester United, a match in which captain Cristian Romero was sent off, further complicating Tottenham’s outlook and forcing the club to reassess its approach if it hopes to secure survival.

Tottenham ended the week sitting 15th in the Premier League standings, holding just a six-point cushion above the relegation places and lacking any recent victories that might provide breathing room.

The situation looks even more concerning when factoring in Spurs’ prolonged winless streak and ongoing attacking struggles, issues that could place additional pressure on head coach Thomas Frank and the squad to reverse the trend.

Rooney’s assessment goes beyond results alone. He emphasized the psychological toll of such a season on a club accustomed to fighting for European qualification, warning that the pressure will only intensify as the campaign progresses.
