Unbeaten! Toluca Defeats Chivas 2-0 on Matchday 8 of the Clausura 2026

Updated: 18 hours ago

Deportivo Toluca strengthened its title aspirations with a commanding 2–0 victory over Chivas at the Estadio Nemesio Díez in Matchday 8 of the Liga MX Clausura 2026. The Diablos Rojos maintained their undefeated run while ending Chivas’ hold on first place in the standings.

Toluca drew first blood early in the match when Jesús Gallardo converted a penalty, awarded after a foul on Paulinho in the opening minutes. The home side continued to press and extended their advantage through Paulinho’s well-taken goal, showcasing sharp attacking play and control throughout the first half.

The result not only solidified Toluca’s defensive strength — now one of the best in the league — but also sent a clear message in the title race, as they leapfrogged Chivas in the table thanks to superior goal difference. Meanwhile, Chivas suffered the additional blow of Luis Romo’s injury, forcing an early substitution and compounding their difficult night.

Toluca’s victory underscores the team’s continued consistency under coach Antonio Mohamed and adds pressure on rivals as the Clausura season approaches its midpoint, with the Diablos emerging as one of the league’s most complete sides.
