Richard Sánchez became one of the most unforgettable figures of Club América’s historic three-peat under André Jardine. The Paraguayan midfielder shined brightest in his final tournament with the Eagles, scoring stunning long-range goals against Cruz Azul and Monterrey, including a spectacular strike in the Grand Final that remains etched in América folklore.
Despite that remarkable run, América’s front office stunned fans by announcing that Sánchez was no longer part of the club’s sporting plans. Shortly after lifting the Liga MX title, the midfielder was transferred out, bringing his golden chapter in Mexico to an abrupt end.
His next stop was Racing Club of Avellaneda, but the move to Argentine football did not go as planned. Under head coach Gustavo Costas, Sánchez struggled for minutes and gradually lost his place in the lineup, a situation that reopened the door to a possible departure.
Faced with limited opportunities, the Paraguayan began exploring options to revive his career, and a return to Liga MX has rapidly gained traction. According to journalist Willie González, Richard Sánchez is now very close to signing with Tigres UANL.
The Monterrey-based club is still searching for reinforcements and sees Sánchez as the ideal solution to bring balance and experience to its midfield. González emphasized that landing a player of Sánchez’s caliber would be a major boost for Tigres, given his proven track record in Liga MX and his ability to perform in high-pressure situations — exactly as he did during América’s historic tricampeonato.
If the deal is finalized, Mexican football will welcome back one of the most decisive midfielders of recent years, with Richard Sánchez poised to write a new chapter in Liga MX with Tigres.
