Toluca defeats León and sends La Fiera out of the playoffs race

Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club closed the regular season with an emphatic victory over Club León, a result that officially eliminated León from any chance of reaching the Clausura 2026 Liguilla.

Toluca opened the scoring early in the 5th minute with a spectacular long-range strike from Sebastián Córdova, who found the top corner to make it 1-0. León responded just before halftime when Díber Cambindo cut inside the box and placed a precise finish for the 1-1 equalizer in stoppage time of the first half.

In the second half, Toluca regained the lead in the 59th minute after a cross from Jesús Gallardo was finished by Fernando Arce from close range. Despite playing with ten men after a red card, the home side remained dangerous on the counterattack.

The third goal arrived in the 73rd minute, when Jorge Díaz Price used his pace to beat the defense, rounded the goalkeeper, and calmly finished. Minutes later, Nicolás Castro sealed the result in the 76th minute with a low strike into the bottom corner after a well-worked team move.

The win strengthens Toluca’s momentum heading into the postseason, as the defending champions continue their push for another title. With the three points, the Red Devils improved their final standing and now await confirmation of their quarterfinal opponent.

For León, the defeat marked a disappointing end to the campaign. Despite entering the final round with hopes of qualifying, La Fiera failed to get the result they needed and were knocked out of contention.

Toluca now enters the Liguilla as one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament, while León is left to reflect on a season that ended just short of the playoffs.
