Sports Reporter Adan Manzano Dies at 27 While Covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans

Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old sports reporter for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, tragically passed away on February 5, 2025, while covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. His sudden death has left the sports journalism community and his audience in deep mourning.

Originally from Mexico City, Manzano relocated to Topeka, Kansas, in 2018. He graduated from Kansas State University and quickly established himself as a passionate and dedicated sports journalist. His work primarily focused on covering Kansas City sports teams, including the MLS team Sporting KC, and the chiefs. He was known for bringing American football coverage to Spanish-speaking audiences.
Telemundo Kansas City released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are saddened to share that Adan Manzano passed away yesterday in New Orleans, while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports. We are cooperating with law … .” The cause of his death has not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing.
This tragedy comes less than a year after the death of Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh … who was killed in a car accident in April 2024. The couple leaves behind a young daughter, Eleanor.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas paid tribute to Manzano, stating, “Adan was so young … . So very sad to see this news … .”
Manzano’s untimely passing has deeply affected his colleagues, audience, and the broader community. He is remembered not only for his professional excellence but also for his enthusiasm and commitment to sports journalism.
