Santos FC Target Pumas Midfielder José Caicedo in Transfer Talks

Colombian midfielder José Caicedo, currently playing for Pumas UNAM, has entered the radar of one of South America’s most historic clubs. Santos FC have shown formal interest in the player, and initial contacts between both institutions are already underway.

The São Paulo–based club has opened talks with Pumas to explore the feasibility of a move during the current transfer window. Santos’ plan is to bring Caicedo in on a loan deal with an option to buy, a structure that would allow the Brazilian side to evaluate the Colombian’s performance before committing to a permanent transfer.

So far, no figures or loan duration have been disclosed, and negotiations remain open with no final agreement in place. The interest from Brazil comes at a delicate moment for Caicedo in Liga MX. In recent matches, the midfielder has faced criticism and boos from sections of the Pumas fanbase, a situation that has influenced his current standing in the tournament.

Despite the pressure, Caicedo continues to be viewed as a player with international upside. That potential has not gone unnoticed by clubs abroad like Santos, who are actively looking to reinforce their midfield with young, dynamic talent.

For now, José Caicedo’s future remains undecided. The next few days will be key as talks between Pumas and Santos progress, determining whether the Colombian remains in Liga MX or takes the next step in his career by moving to Brazilian football.
