Mexican forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is looking to remain with the California-based club, but San Diego FC’s internal position is firm. Head coach Mikey Varas has drawn a clear line regarding the attacker’s future, stating that Lozano is not part of the club’s sporting plans.
According to reports shared by Fabrizio Romano, Lozano has no intention of leaving the club during the current transfer window, despite having already been informed by San Diego FC that he will not be considered, even though his contract runs through 2028. This situation has created growing tension, as both sides appear to be holding irreconcilable positions.
When asked on the 97.3 The Fan podcast, Varas was unequivocal and made it clear that the decision is final and will not change under any circumstances. The coach confirmed that the message was delivered directly to both the player and his representatives.
“Hirving will not be part of our plans, and we made that very clear to him and his camp. That decision is not going to change,” Varas said, effectively closing the door on any speculation about Lozano’s continuity with the project.
Despite the firm stance, the San Diego FC coach expressed confidence that Lozano will soon reach an agreement that allows him to return to regular competitive action. The primary concern is ensuring that the forward does not lose match rhythm ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Varas acknowledged that there are clubs interested in giving Lozano an opportunity to stay active and remain on the international radar. He emphasized that the final decision will also depend on the player himself and the priorities he sets at this stage of his career.
For now, Lozano has kept a low media profile and does not appear willing to negotiate an immediate exit. The main obstacle is financial, as the Mexican international is guaranteed approximately 22.8 million dollars over the remaining three years of his contract.
All signs point to a tense resolution, where time and external offers will play a decisive role in determining Chucky Lozano’s next destination and his path toward the 2026 World Cup.
