Donald Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, marking the beginning of his second non-consecutive term. The day unfolded under unusually cold weather in Washington, D.C., which led to the swearing-in ceremony being moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda. This adjustment ensured the safety of attendees while maintaining the tradition of the transfer of power.

In his inaugural address, President Trump declared January 20 as “Liberation Day,” signaling a new era under what he described as a “revolution of common sense.” His speech emphasized plans to restore economic stability, strengthen border security, and refocus national priorities on American interests. Trump outlined his administration’s intention to combat inflation, address immigration challenges, and promote unity under an “America First” policy framework.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural parade was also held indoors at the Capital One Arena due to the extreme weather. The venue provided a grand stage for the president’s first official acts in office. During the parade, President Trump signed several executive orders aimed at swiftly implementing key campaign promises. These included the shutdown of the CBP One app and the cancellation of migrant appointments at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump also declared a national emergency at the southern border, emphasizing his administration’s priority on immigration enforcement.

Additionally, Trump reversed mandates related to electric vehicles and withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Accord. These actions signaled a significant departure from previous policies, aligning with Trump’s goal of prioritizing domestic energy production and reducing federal regulations. Among the executive orders, President Trump also ordered that all federal workers return to their offices five days a week.
The day concluded with several inaugural balls attended by dignitaries, supporters, and celebrities. Performances included rapper Nelly, adding a celebratory tone to the day’s historic events. The inauguration highlighted the immediate impact of Trump’s return to the presidency, setting a decisive tone for his new term.
