The Federação Portuguesa de Futebol is closely monitoring the current situation in Mexico in relation to the scheduled friendly match for the Portuguese national team on 28 March 2026 at the Estadio Azteca/Banorte. This game is part of the team’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although the FPF was honoured by the invitation to participate in this match — especially given the historical importance of the stadium and the competitive value of the fixture — recent developments have forced a careful review of travel and event conditions.
The federation emphasized that decisions about the match’s future will be based on continuous evaluation of safety conditions, in close coordination with the Portuguese government and in good collaboration with the Mexican Football Federation. The safety of players, coaching staff, officials, and supporters remains the highest priority guiding any choice regarding the match.
