The Mexican National Team wrapped up the FIFA break with a 2–1 loss to Paraguay, in a match that sparked a lot of debate because of Paraguay’s first goal. Antonio Sanabria scored in the 48th minute in a play that immediately frustrated the Mexican side. The Paraguayan striker went hard after a cross into the six-yard box and ended up crashing into Luis Malagón right as the goalkeeper had touched the ball first.

The play started with a tough, curling cross that dropped dangerously close to the goal. Malagón reacted quickly and managed to get a foot on the ball, but at that exact moment Sanabria came in with force and collided with him. That hit knocked Malagón off balance, and the ball rolled into the net. For the Mexican players, it was a clear foul, but the referee decided both were fighting for the ball and let the play continue.

Paraguay took advantage of the moment and scored again in the 56th minute with a strong header from Damián Bobadilla. Mexico was slow to settle into the game, but eventually started getting into the box until Raúl Jiménez scored a penalty in the 54th minute. The Fulham striker stayed calm and finished it cleanly, but the team couldn’t find the rhythm they needed to tie the match.

Mexico tried to control the ball and build from possession, but Paraguay stayed organized in defense and looked dangerous on the counterattack. The substitutions brought more energy, but even then, El Tri couldn’t break Paraguay’s defensive block.

In the end, that first goal became the play everyone talked about. Malagón got to the ball first and tried to control it, but the collision with Sanabria changed everything. The Mexican players insisted it should’ve been called a foul, but the referee stood by his decision.

Mexico closes this FIFA window with mixed emotions and plenty of defensive issues to fix before their next games. Paraguay, disciplined and effective, took advantage of their chances and came away with the win.
