Mohamed Gives Crucial Update on Alexis Vega’s Fitness Ahead of the Liga MX Final

ree

Toluca enters the Liga MX Final with a cloud of uncertainty hanging over its biggest star. Alexis Vega hasn’t played since October 27, and his slow recovery during the Liguilla has raised serious doubts about whether he’ll be available at all against Tigres. Although he remains outside full-team training, his progress in the last few days has opened a small—but real—window of hope.

Head coach Antonio Mohamed explained that Vega will be monitored day by day. The manager admitted that the attacker is still not ready, but emphasized that the club will push his recovery “until the very last moment.” Toluca does not want to risk a relapse, yet Mohamed understands that Vega’s presence dramatically changes the team’s attacking weight. The decision will depend almost entirely on the medical staff and how Vega responds in the next few hours.

For now, Toluca is planning the Final under the assumption that, if Vega plays at all, it will be as a substitute—not a starter. Mohamed mentioned that his priority is preparing the match with the players who are fully available, ignoring external pressure and debates about whether Vega “must” play. The club is chasing back-to-back championships and knows that mental clarity is essential before entering El Volcán.

Vega’s last appearance came on October 27, when he played 75 minutes in the 2–2 draw against Pachuca. Since then, lingering discomfort forced him to stop completely, leaving him out of the entire postseason—ironically during Toluca’s best run of form this tournament.

Inside the club, his potential return is viewed as a psychological boost heading into the Final. Even 15 minutes of Alexis Vega could tilt a tight match, but only if he arrives with real match fitness. Everything suggests that the first leg will come too soon, but the second leg remains open—Toluca will make the final call in the hours leading up to the match.
