Mexico U-17 says goodbye to the World Cup after beating Portugal in the round of 16

Mexico U-17 was eliminated from the World Cup after losing 5-0 to Portugal in the round of 16 played in Doha. The result sealed the departure of the team led byCarlos Cariñoin an afternoon without answers.

The match was played at the Aspire Zone – Pitch 3 and Portugal imposed conditions from the start. The Portuguese team enters the quarterfinals with authority and awaits the winner ofSwitzerland vs. Ireland.

The Europeans struck early with a penalty from Rafael Quintas. The 1-0 forced Mexico to open up and left spaces that the rival exploited effectively.

El Tri was left with 10 players at 33' due to the expulsion of José Navarro for an elbow on Bernardo Lima. With one man less, the team was exposed and the score increased in the second half.

The victory was completed with four goals after the break, a reflection of the Portuguese dominance and the Mexican difficulty in sustaining pressure and coverage. The difference in transitions and definition was decisive.

The setback cut off the momentum that Mexico had after advancing through the phase and reaching the key against Portugal. The rival's hierarchy and numerical inferiority marked the development.
