Manchester City Close to Completing the Signing of Marc Guéhi

Manchester City are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Marc Guéhi in the current transfer window. The update was confirmed on Friday by Oliver Glasner, who also announced that he will step down as head coach of Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

Last summer, Guéhi was close to joining Liverpool, but the deal collapsed on deadline day. At the time, everything pointed to a move to the Premier League champions once the campaign concluded. However, Manchester City entered the race and accelerated talks at the direct request of Pep Guardiola.

Glasner also confirmed that Guéhi will not be included in Palace’s squad for their upcoming match, a clear indication that his departure is imminent.

“According to the latest information, the agreement for Marc is in its final stages,” Glasner said ahead of Palace’s Saturday fixture against Sunderland. “When players want to move forward, a deal happens. It looks like it has happened now,” added the Austrian coach.

Guardiola has so far avoided commenting publicly on Guéhi’s potential arrival, although City have already been active in the market with the recent signing of Antoine Semenyo during the January window.

From Palace’s perspective, the decision to sell now was strategic, as the club preferred to cash in rather than risk losing the defender on a free transfer. “Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever,” Glasner admitted. “He showed throughout the summer and autumn that he was 100% committed to Crystal Palace. I wish him all the best — he’s only just beginning a great career.”

Glasner’s announcement regarding his own departure also sent shockwaves through the Premier League landscape. After leading Palace to FA Cup glory last season, the Austrian coach has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take over at Manchester United, adding another layer of intrigue to an already busy transfer period.
