Luis Enrique, the current head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, was once again at the center of controversy on Friday after clashing with the media ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Auxerre. The Spanish manager was openly critical of journalists, stating that many opinions are formed “without having the information.”
Speaking at a press conference, Luis Enrique said the media often tries to offer solutions while criticizing the fact that their analysis is not based on real data. He claimed journalists “don’t even have 50 percent of the information” that a coach has about his own team. The PSG manager was blunt when referring to opinions he hears about matches—even those not involving his club—calling it “incredible” that judgments are made without proper context. He added that in professional football, when things go well, everyone celebrates, and when things go wrong, “nothing happens.”
Luis Enrique also defended his team’s performances following recent results, including the Champions League loss to Sporting and other inconsistent outings. According to the coach, Lens has been delivering a strong campaign in Ligue 1, which has made PSG’s position in the standings more challenging.
His comments come during a demanding stretch of the season for Paris Saint-Germain, a period marked by defeats and growing criticism over the team’s playing style and results in both domestic and European competitions.
The coach also compared the current expectations to last season, when he won multiple titles, noting that opponents now recognize PSG as a team capable of competing for major trophies—an awareness that has significantly increased the pressure. Luis Enrique has had a complicated relationship with the media throughout his career, and this latest exchange is far from the first time he has confronted journalists following criticism of his teams’ collective performances.
