Liverpool Matches a Negative Record Not Seen Since 1953 After 1–4 Collapse vs PSV

ree

Liverpool is going through one of the most painful stretches in its modern history. Arne Slot’s team fell 1–4 at Anfield against PSV Eindhoven — deepening a devastating streak that has alarmed the club. With this loss, the Reds have now suffered three straight defeats by at least three goals, something that hadn’t happened since 1953.

The shock is so severe that even the players are speaking bluntly. Curtis Jones described the moment in raw terms: “We are in the shit.” The midfielder admitted the team has no answers and that the situation has surpassed any acceptable limit for a club of Liverpool’s size. PSV came into Anfield with authority, controlled the match tempo, and punished every lapse from the Reds — leaving the stadium in stunned silence.

And the outlook only worsens. Liverpool previously lost 3–0 to Manchester City and 3–0 to Newcastle, and now has 9 defeats in its last 12 matches — an alarming number reflecting deep issues both tactically and emotionally. After the PSV humiliation, Jones told RTÉ that he can’t explain what’s happening. He said the team simply isn’t competing as it should, and that the situation no longer even makes him angry — it leaves him numb. He has never seen Liverpool in such a broken state.

Neither Slot, nor the squad, nor the fans can find comfort amid a collapse that grows week by week. Pressure is rising — and time is running out. Jones emphasized the need for brutal internal accountability, saying everyone must take responsibility and Liverpool cannot normalize such a low competitive level.

In the chaos, Arne Slot tries to remain calm publicly, but inside the dressing room the urgency is absolute — react now, or face one of the darkest seasons in the club’s post-war history.
