Laporta Breaks Silence on Dro’s Departure to PSG

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has finally addressed the imminent departure of young prospect Dro to Paris Saint-Germain. The 18-year-old midfielder has already traveled to Paris to finalize his transfer, bringing an end to a saga that sparked frustration within the Barça environment.

A few days ago, Dro informed club executives of his decision not to continue at Barcelona—a move that caught the club’s leadership by surprise. At Camp Nou, his contract renewal was considered a done deal, but the situation changed abruptly. Laporta revealed that there had been a prior agreement to extend the player’s contract once he turned 18, but that plan collapsed due to an unexpected shift from the player’s camp.

Laporta openly acknowledged his discomfort with how events unfolded. “He announced that he will not continue, and it surprised me. It’s an unpleasant situation,” the president said, making it clear that the club did not anticipate this outcome.

He went on to explain that Barcelona believed it had secured a solution to ensure Dro’s continuity. “We had an agreement for him to extend his contract when he turned 18, but then his agent said he had changed his mind,” Laporta stated in remarks to Catalunya Ràdio.

The Barça president also expressed surprise at the stance taken by the player’s representative. “Surprisingly, his agent told us that we couldn’t move forward with what we had agreed,” he added, hinting at tensions during the negotiations.

With Dro already in Paris, the transfer now appears imminent. Barcelona is preparing to lose one of its promising young talents, while PSG gets ready to add another highly rated prospect to its project. The saga is entering its final stage, though it leaves a bitter taste at Camp Nou.

Despite the frustration, Laporta assured that the club will try to handle the situation in the best possible way. “We will try to ensure it ends in the best possible manner for Barcelona’s interests,” he said, leaving the door open to an orderly exit.
