LAFC Take Narrow Advantage Over Toluca in Concacaf Semifinal First Leg

Los Angeles FC secured a late 2-1 victory over Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal, taking a slim lead into the decisive return match.

The game at BMO Stadium was tightly contested from the start, with both sides showing defensive discipline and limiting clear scoring opportunities throughout the first half. Despite moments of intensity, neither team managed to break the deadlock before halftime.

LAFC found the breakthrough early in the second half when Timothy Tillman finished a well-worked play to put the hosts ahead. The goal shifted momentum in favor of the MLS side, who began to control possession and tempo.

However, Toluca responded with resilience. In the 73rd minute, Jesús Angulo delivered a powerful strike to equalize, giving the Liga MX side a crucial away goal and restoring balance to the tie.

Just as the match appeared destined for a draw, LAFC capitalized on a late opportunity. Defender Nkosi Tafari rose in stoppage time to head home the winning goal, sending the home crowd into celebration and handing his team a narrow but important advantage.

The result leaves the semifinal finely poised ahead of the second leg in Mexico. Toluca will look to overturn the deficit on home soil, where a 1-0 victory would be enough to secure qualification.
