Kylian Mbappé Injury Update: Real Madrid Star Ruled Out With Knee Problem — Recovery Timeline Uncertain

Updated: Feb 28

Real Madrid CF forward Kylian Mbappé will be sidelined indefinitely after ongoing issues with his left knee, a problem that has affected the French star since late 2025. Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa confirmed that Mbappé will not return immediately, as the club prioritizes a full recovery rather than rushing him back onto the pitch.

Arbeloa explained that Real Madrid decided to stop the player’s activity to allow him to recover completely, regardless of how long the rehabilitation process takes. The absence is expected to last weeks rather than days, dealing a significant blow to the Spanish giants ahead of crucial UEFA Champions League and LaLiga fixtures.

Medical staff and the coaching team reached the decision in collaboration with Mbappé after weeks in which the striker continued playing despite persistent discomfort. The objective is to prevent the injury from worsening and ensure he can return without risk of relapse.

The knee issue has continued to cause problems even during training sessions, and Mbappé has already been ruled out of upcoming matches, including league fixtures against Getafe and other important opponents. In his absence, Real Madrid will rely more heavily on Vinícius Jr. and the rest of the attacking unit to maintain offensive production.

The injury is linked to the lateral collateral ligament in Mbappé’s knee, dating back to December 2025 when the forward first showed signs of ongoing pain that never fully subsided. Despite managing the condition for months, the club ultimately chose a preventative shutdown to protect the player’s long-term fitness.

Arbeloa admitted there is currently no clear timetable for Mbappé’s return, raising the possibility that he could miss decisive Champions League knockout matches and key domestic games that may shape Real Madrid’s season.

While Mbappé focuses on recovery, Real Madrid aims to sustain results without its top scorer. The club remains competitive in its campaigns and hopes the team’s collective performance can offset the temporary loss of one of the world’s most influential attackers during the decisive stretch of the season.
