Hansi Flick addressed the media after Barcelona’s victory over Copenhagen, a result that secured the club’s place in the Champions League Top 8. The German coach expressed satisfaction with the objective achieved and praised the maturity shown by his players, as Barça closed the league phase on a positive note.
Flick explained that his halftime message was clear and direct. He told the team they needed to improve and occupy spaces on the pitch more effectively. While he did not make major tactical changes in the second half, he demanded greater order and concentration from his players.
When reflecting on the league phase as a whole, Flick highlighted the difficulty of the new Champions League format. He pointed out that having five Premier League teams in the Top 8 clearly reflects the high level of that competition. Despite that comparison, Flick said he was proud of Barcelona’s performance and the final outcome.
The coach emphasized that the main objective from the start was to finish among the top eight teams. He stressed that the squad delivered on what it set out to achieve and advanced with solidity in a highly demanding context.
Regarding Bernal’s playing time, Flick asked for patience. He described the youngster as a fantastic player with a strong ability to control the game, but reminded everyone that he is coming back from a serious injury and still needs time to improve physically.
Flick positively assessed the 45 minutes Bernal played, assuring that his role will grow gradually. The priority, he said, is to protect the player and guide his development carefully.
The German coach also commented on the atmosphere inside the stadium, acknowledging the positive energy transmitted by the fans. While he remains focused during matches, Flick said he can feel the constant support from the stands and considers it a very important factor for the team.
Finally, Flick praised Lamine Yamal’s performance. He highlighted the youngster’s pace on the first goal, his attacking depth, and his defensive commitment. Flick expressed great satisfaction with Yamal’s level, describing him as a player of enormous quality and a key piece for Barcelona.
