Guido Rodríguez is just one step away from becoming a new Valencia player. The Argentine midfielder, a 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina, has arrived in Spain to complete his medical examination and sign a contract through the end of the season, bringing his Premier League stint to a close.
Rodríguez landed at Manises Airport to finalize the last details of the move. On Monday, he is set to undergo medical tests, formally terminate his contract with West Ham, and complete his signing with Valencia in a deal that came together right before the transfer window closed. The 31-year-old midfielder expressed his excitement about returning to LaLiga, a competition he knows well and where he enjoyed some of the best moments of his career.
Upon arrival, Rodríguez acknowledged the complexity of the negotiations and highlighted the collective effort required to finalize the deal. “That’s how transfers are. Thank God it worked out. Everyone pushed from their side, and the most important thing is that I’m here now,” he said.
With this move, Guido Rodríguez brings his time in England to an end and returns to Spanish football after his spell with Real Betis, where he spent nearly five seasons, made 172 official appearances, and lifted the Copa del Rey.
“I’m very happy to be back in Spain and to join Valencia. I’m here to contribute, get to know the group, and help in any way I can,” Rodríguez said. He also emphasized the club’s stature: “There’s no need for many words about Valencia—it’s a very big club with a great history, and we’re here to work hard.”
His experience and familiarity with the league were key factors in Valencia’s decision to pursue the signing, with the club confident in his immediate adaptation and leadership in midfield.
The schedule adds an extra layer of intrigue to his arrival. Valencia’s next match will be against Real Betis, his former club. “I saw the fixture list, and it could be something very special for me,” the World Cup winner admitted as he prepares to begin a new chapter in LaLiga.
