Gio Reyna already owns a soccer team

The American soccer player , current player for Borussia Mönchengladbach and the USA National Team, surprised by announcing his incorporation into the group of owners of the Fort Lauderdale United FC, a club that will debut in the USL League One in 2026.

The 22-year-old midfielder, considered one of the great promises of American soccer, joins a project that seeks to consolidate the development of talent in Florida, with teams in the USL W League and the USL Academy.

Reyna's arrival represents strong support for the institution, which is committed to becoming a benchmark in the training of players. “This project not only reflects our potential, but solidifies our position in American soccer,” said Tommy Smith, president of Fort Lauderdale United.


The player highlighted that what convinced him most was the club's comprehensive vision: not only creating professional teams, but an ecosystem that goes from basic forces to the highest level.


Reyna debuted with the before turning 18 and was named U.S. Young Player of the Year. Soccer in 2020. In addition, he won the Concacaf Nations League three times and became the youngest scorer in the history of the German Cup. His international experience is now transferred to the business field.

“It was the perfect opportunity to invest not only in the success of the club, but also in the future of soccer in the United States,” said the midfielder, highlighting the importance of combining the location in south Florida with first-class facilities.

Reyna's signing as an investor also has a family link: his father, Claudio Reyna, was a reference for the national team and multiple NCAA champion, while his mother, Danielle Egan, played in the USWNT.


With its incorporation, Fort Lauderdale United seeks to strengthen its image and attract more elite talent, thus confirming its mission of being a leading club in the growth of soccer in North America.
