AC Milan have finalized their most important winter move after confirming the injury absence of Santiago Giménez. With the Mexican striker sidelined, the Rossoneri moved quickly and reached an agreement to bring in Niclas Füllkrug as an immediate attacking reinforcement.
Giménez recently underwent a minor surgical procedure to clean up his ankle, a decision that will keep him out of action for an estimated six to eight weeks. The club supported the choice, understanding that continuing without surgery could risk lingering issues ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Faced with that timeline, Milan opted not to gamble and instead reinforced the squad with a proven, physical presence in the box.
The decision was also shaped by the needs of head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who required a reliable No. 9 to maintain competitiveness in Serie A during the opening stretch of 2026. Milan identified Füllkrug as the ideal profile: experienced, strong in the air, and capable of leading the line without lengthy adaptation.
The Rossoneri are set to complete a loan deal with West Ham United in the coming days. The agreement includes a six-month loan with a non-mandatory purchase option valued at around €15 million. Although the winter transfer window officially opens on January 1, 2026, all key terms have already been agreed.
Füllkrug, 32, has given the green light to the move and views his arrival in Italy as a positive step in his career. If no setbacks arise, he is expected to be available immediately and could make his debut on January 2 when Milan face Cagliari. With this move, AC Milan secure attacking depth and stability while awaiting Santiago Giménez’s return to full fitness.
