Franco Mastantuono Sent Off After Referee Outburst, Faces LaLiga Suspension

Franco Mastantuono received a straight red card in the 95th minute after directing strong words toward the referee, reportedly saying, “What a disgrace, what a f***ing disgrace.” The midfielder repeated the phrase multiple times, leading to his immediate dismissal and leaving his team with a significant absence for upcoming LaLiga fixtures.

Referee Muñiz Ruiz did not hesitate to issue the red card for dissent, an action that falls under Article 124 of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Disciplinary Code. The expected suspension ranges between two and three matches, though the minimum two-game ban is typically applied in similar cases.

If the disciplinary committee confirms a two-match suspension, Mastantuono will miss the upcoming league matches against Celta Vigo at Balaídos and Elche at home. His potential return would then be scheduled for the March 22 derby.

The dismissal compounds an already difficult situation for the team, which had been dealing with other absences due to accumulated yellow cards. Losing another player deep into stoppage time adds further strain during a decisive stretch of the LaLiga season.

Mastantuono entered during the second half and played approximately 25 minutes but struggled to make a significant offensive impact. He registered just one shot on target, comfortably saved by David Soria, and was unable to influence the match in the final moments.

In his last six appearances, the young Argentine has accumulated only 48 total minutes on the field. He failed to feature in three consecutive matches and has seen his role in the starting lineup diminish considerably.

Rather than solidifying his position in the squad, Mastantuono now faces reduced prominence at a crucial point in the campaign. The direct red card not only sidelines him for important games but could also impact his standing within the team’s rotation moving forward.

With the LaLiga title race and key fixtures approaching, the suspension represents both a disciplinary setback and a competitive challenge for a player seeking to regain consistent playing time.
