FIFA is already planning the next chapter of its revamped Club World Cup, and the tournament could move continents for its second edition. After the successful debut of the expanded 32-team format in the United States, Morocco has emerged as the leading candidate to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
The new competition made its global impact in 2025, with the final played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — the same venue set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. That landmark event signaled FIFA’s intention to transform the Club World Cup into a truly global showcase.
Five countries have expressed interest in staging the 2029 edition: Brazil, the United States, Qatar, Spain and Morocco. However, recent reports place the North African nation clearly ahead of its rivals in the bidding race.
FIFA is prioritizing more than just modern stadiums. The governing body is looking for proven logistics, organizational experience and strong international projection — areas in which Morocco has excelled. Its advantage is closely linked to its role as co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Earlier this year, FIFA also opened a regional office in Rabat, a move that strengthened institutional ties and accelerated joint planning. According to local sources, the 2029 Club World Cup would function as a large-scale operational test, allowing FIFA to evaluate stadium readiness, transport systems, security protocols and overall infrastructure ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
This strategy mirrors the former FIFA Confederations Cup, which once served as a dress rehearsal for host nations. Although that tournament no longer exists, the new Club World Cup is now expected to fill that role — but with far greater global exposure and commercial impact.
If the decision is finalized, Morocco will make history as the first African nation to host the modern-era FIFA Club World Cup, reinforcing its growing status as one of the world’s emerging football hubs for the next decade.
