European Giant Targets Sergio Ramos for Final Return to Elite Football

ree

Sergio Ramos’ future is once again heating up in Europe. The Spanish defender, currently fighting for a place in the Apertura 2025 final with Monterrey, is seriously considering closing his chapter in Liga MX and returning to European football for one final challenge — with no plans of retiring anytime soon.

According to reports, the 39-year-old center-back has re-entered the radar of Italian football. Intermediaries have offered Ramos to AC Milan, where he could potentially reunite with Luka Modrić and share a locker room with Mexican striker Santiago Giménez. The move would give Ramos the chance to compete again in a top-tier European side and test himself in the Serie A at a high-level sporting project. Massimiliano Allegri will ultimately decide whether Ramos fits tactically into Milan’s defensive structure.

Meanwhile, Monterrey still hopes to keep him. Rayados value his leadership, experience, and emotional weight inside the dressing room — especially as they chase another title. However, Ramos is actively listening to offers and evaluating the best possible path at this stage of his career. The Spaniard wants to finish the Apertura strong, but he is also motivated by a new challenge after winning titles with Real Madrid, Sevilla, and PSG.

Monterrey will face Toluca, the team that eliminated them last season — and the result of that semifinal could define Ramos’ timeline in Mexico. His continuity now depends solely on how far the team advances, not on any contractual guarantee. If Rayados reach the final, he will stay a little longer. If they are eliminated, his departure may accelerate immediately.

All signs point to the Apertura 2025 being Ramos’ final tournament with Monterrey. The defender aims to close his Mexican chapter with dignity before making his final decision on the next — and possibly last — destination of his legendary career.
