Endrick Speaks Out After Leaving Real Madrid to Join Lyon: “Go, Play and Be Happy”

Brazilian wonderkid Endrick has opened up about one of the most important decisions of his young career after officially leaving Real Madrid to continue his development with Olympique Lyon in Ligue 1. The 19-year-old forward explained that his lack of consistent playing time at the Bernabéu pushed him to seek a new challenge in Europe, with a clear objective: to play regularly, grow as a footballer, and regain competitive momentum.

During his presentation in France, Endrick revealed that the turning point came after a personal conversation with Carlo Ancelotti — his former coach at Real Madrid and current manager of the Brazilian national team. The Italian’s advice proved decisive in shaping the teenager’s future.

“He told me: go, play, improve your football and be happy,” Endrick shared, admitting those words gave him clarity at a crucial stage of his career.

Despite leaving one of the biggest clubs in the world, the Brazilian striker said his relationship with his former teammates remains strong and stressed that he trained with professionalism until his final day in Madrid. He also dismissed any concerns about pressure, explaining that growing up in Brazil prepared him for demanding environments where criticism is part of everyday life.

Now fully focused on Lyon, Endrick stated that his main goal is to contribute on the pitch — winning matches, competing for titles and helping the club climb the Ligue 1 table. His competitive mindset, he says, is something that has followed him since the beginning of his career.

The young forward also addressed his ambitions with the Brazilian national team, confirming that wearing the famous yellow shirt again remains one of his biggest motivations. He understands the fierce competition but trusts that consistent minutes in France will put him back in the conversation.

Endrick closed by saying he does not feel pressured to lead the team immediately, but promised total commitment and steady improvement as he works to become a key piece in Lyon’s sporting project.
