Diego Costa Takes Aim at Antonio Conte and Reveals His Experience at Chelsea

Former professional striker Diego Costa reignited controversy by openly criticizing manager Antonio Conte, with whom he had a tense and conflict-filled relationship during their time together at Chelsea in the Premier League. Costa’s comments surfaced during an interview on The Obi One Podcast and quickly went viral across social media and international sports outlets.

Costa reflected on his spell at Stamford Bridge and stated that, despite winning the 2016–17 Premier League title under Conte, day-to-day life with the Italian coach was far from easy. According to the former Spain international, Conte’s personality and working methods created constant friction within the squad.

In the interview, Costa described Conte as “someone who doesn’t trust others” and “believes he knows everything,” claiming this mindset generated tension in the dressing room. He added that many players did not enjoy training sessions under Conte’s leadership and suggested that this lack of chemistry was one of the reasons the Italian manager did not last long at the club.

Costa also drew a direct comparison with José Mourinho, another of his former Chelsea managers, speaking far more positively about the Portuguese coach. He highlighted that under Mourinho, training sessions were more enjoyable, motivating, and uplifting for the squad.

Beyond criticizing Conte’s managerial style, Costa recalled a defining moment that ultimately ended his Chelsea career. The striker revealed that Conte informed him via text message that he was no longer part of the club’s plans for the following season, despite being one of the team’s top scorers. That decision marked the beginning of the end of his time in England and led to his return to Atlético de Madrid.

Now retired from professional football, Diego Costa continues to spark debate with his blunt opinions and candid storytelling, traits that defined him both on and off the pitch. His remarks not only revive an old feud but also shed light on the complex dynamics between player and coach during one of Chelsea’s most memorable chapters of the past decade.
