The long-awaited project for a new Cruz Azul stadium remains alive and moving forward. Club executives recently met with Mexico City’s Head of Government, Clara Brugada, to review and refine key elements of a plan that fans of La Máquina have been waiting on for years.
The meeting took place between Víctor Velázquez, president of the Board of Directors of Cooperativa La Cruz Azul, and Brugada, with the goal of aligning efforts between the club and city authorities regarding the future stadium project.
According to those present, the conversation focused on strategic aspects of the proposed venue and was carried out in a positive and collaborative tone. While no concrete details were disclosed regarding timelines or an exact location, the dialogue itself represents a significant step toward advancing a project that has generated strong interest among Cruz Azul supporters and various sectors within Mexico City.
Plans for a new Cruz Azul stadium have been under discussion for several years, with multiple potential locations within the capital evaluated during that time. The club’s objective is to build a modern venue that reflects its history, identity, and stature within Mexican football.
Since leaving the Estadio Azteca, Cruz Azul has played its home matches at different venues, including the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and other stadiums. This lack of a permanent home has increased the urgency for the club to establish a stadium of its own.
