Cristiano Ronaldo’s private jet sparked widespread speculation after it departed from Riyadh bound for Madrid just hours after a drone attack targeted the United States Embassy in the Saudi capital. Flight data from Flightradar24 showed the football star’s Bombardier Global Express aircraft leaving Saudi Arabia and traveling toward Spain.
The flight reportedly departed around 8:00 p.m. local time and landed in Madrid shortly after 1:00 a.m., crossing Egyptian airspace and the Mediterranean Sea along the route. The development quickly fueled rumors that the Portuguese superstar may have temporarily left Saudi Arabia amid rising regional tensions.
However, Al-Nassr moved quickly to clarify the situation. The Saudi Pro League club shared images on social media showing Cristiano Ronaldo training normally with the team, confirming that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains in Saudi Arabia despite the reports about his aircraft.
The confusion emerged during a sensitive moment in the region, as Riyadh faced drone-related security incidents that heightened concerns across the Gulf.
The geopolitical situation has already impacted football in the region. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the suspension of eight matches due to escalating tensions following Israeli and U.S. strikes against Iran. Among the postponed fixtures is the AFC Champions League quarterfinal clash between Al-Nassr and Al-Wasl.
Beyond scheduling disruptions, the security situation also raises concerns for residents in major cities such as Riyadh, where Ronaldo lives with Georgina Rodríguez and their five children.
Although the private jet traveled to Madrid, Ronaldo himself remains in Saudi Arabia and continues training with Al-Nassr as regional football navigates an uncertain period.
While geopolitical tensions surround the region, the Portuguese captain maintains his professional commitments with Al-Nassr as the club and league monitor the evolving situation closely.
