Chivas have taken a decisive step toward the Clausura 2026 by securing the long-term future of one of their most influential players. The Guadalajara-based club officially renewed Armando González’s contract through 2029, reinforcing their commitment to a striker who has become central to the team’s sporting project.
The Mexican forward is coming off a career-defining season in which he scored 12 goals and finished as the tournament’s top scorer. His impact was instrumental in helping Chivas qualify directly for the Liguilla and compete for a place in the semifinals, solidifying his status as a difference-maker in the final third. Club executives view González not only as a key on-field contributor, but also as a player who embodies the identity and values of the institution.
The renewal was announced via the club’s official social media channels. Chivas first confirmed an extension for Rubén “Oso” González and, minutes later, revealed the four-year agreement with Armando González. The move signals a clear strategy: preserve the core of the squad while building continuity ahead of upcoming tournaments.
Since making his first-team debut on January 13, 2024, González has shown steady progression. Over the last two years, he has totaled 39 appearances and 15 goals, with his most explosive run arriving in the most recent campaign. His performances have already earned him a call-up to the Mexican national team for a friendly, placing him firmly on the radar as a potential option in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup.
By locking in González through 2029, Chivas aim to maintain stability in attack and reward a player whose development, scoring instinct, and connection to the club position him as a cornerstone for the next phase of the project.
