Charlotte FC returned to winning form Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC at Bank of America Stadium, ending a difficult stretch of results with one of their most complete attacking performances in recent weeks.

The Crown started the match with energy and urgency, pressing Toronto high up the field and forcing mistakes early. Wilfried Zaha opened the scoring in the 20th minute after combining well with Pep Biel, giving Charlotte an early advantage and setting the tone for the first half. Toronto responded quickly just three minutes later when Jonathan Osorio finished a transition opportunity to level the match at 1-1.
Despite Toronto holding slightly more possession overall, Charlotte looked more dangerous in key moments. David Schnegg restored Charlotte’s lead in the 36th minute with a well-taken finish after sustained pressure inside the box. The home side continued creating chances through Kerwin Vargas and Idan Toklomati, while Kristijan Kahlina made several important saves to prevent Toronto from finding another equalizer.
One of the biggest storylines of the night was Pep Biel’s influence in attack. The midfielder constantly found space between Toronto’s lines and capped off his performance with an 85th-minute penalty that sealed the 3-1 result. Charlotte finished with 18 total shots and six on target, showing a much sharper attacking edge compared to previous matches.
The victory could prove important for Charlotte FC as they attempt to stabilize their position in the Eastern Conference standings after a difficult run that included losses to New England Revolution and Nashville SC. Dean Smith spoke on Kerwin Vargas recent perfomances highlighting his ability on 1v1 which allow the team to be a threat in his moments of magic.
For Toronto, defensive inconsistency remains a concern. Robin Fraser’s team has now conceded multiple goals in several recent matches, including defeats against Inter Miami and Atlanta United.
Charlotte now shifts focus toward its next MLS fixture carrying renewed momentum and confidence after an important home victory. Charlotte FC will face New England Revolution at the Bank of America May 23.
