Charlotte FC Clinches Fourth Seed in 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with Win Over Philadelphia Union

Charlotte FC secured a place in the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs after a decisive 2-0 victory against the Philadelphia Union. With the win, The Crown locked in the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and earned home–field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. A feat that the team emphasized as a goal of theirs for this season, end in the top 4.

From kickoff, Charlotte asserted control. After out‑shooting Philadelphia and dominating possession, the breakthrough came mid‑first half when Wilfried Zaha curled a precise shot past the keeper to put The Crown ahead. Later, a Kerwin Vargas right foot shot found the net after Harry Toffolo assist. The defensive core, led by Kristijan Kahlina in goal, held firm—only facing a handful of clear chances from the Union. 

Statistically, Charlotte’s performance stood out: they controlled approximately 59% of possession and completed 85% of their passes while registering 11 shots with five on target. Defensively they remained composed, allowing fewer than five shots on target and committing under eight fouls. Their strong outing at Bank of America Stadium capped a season setting club‑records in points and wins. 

General manager expressed the Importance of beating Philadelph " we won both games, that's important going into the playoffs... it was not just getting top 4, but winning and staying in 4th place." The win marks the ambitious project of being a top 4 team in the league and to gradually improve despite falling short at times. As of now, all stats point to positive gradual growth and no signs of slowing down. Charlotte has positioned themselves on the world stage hosting Copa America and Club World Cup matches, now the MLS franchise sets their eyes on becoming a team deserving of that same world recognition. 

Looking ahead, Charlotte must convert their regular‑season momentum into playoff performance. Depth, consistency, and managing key absences will be decisive as they aim for their first deep run in the playoffs. They will face New York City FC October 28th at the Bank of America.
