Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is actively seeking an exit from San Diego FC, and Real Oviedo has emerged as a realistic destination to revive his European career ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish club is cautiously exploring a high-profile move that would allow them to add an internationally experienced winger at a decisive stage of the season.
The Mexican star is under contract with the MLS side until 2028, but San Diego FC is already considering ways to part ways with the player. In that context, Oviedo is evaluating a loan deal that would strengthen their attack without committing to a permanent transfer.
The negotiation is far from simple. Lozano’s salary is well above Oviedo’s usual financial limits, forcing the club to seek creative solutions to share or restructure the cost of the operation. Even so, talks remain ongoing.
The close relationship between Lozano and Jesús Martínez, president of Grupo Pachuca, as well as the constant dialogue with San Diego FC, keeps the possibility alive. Oviedo will move forward only if a financially sustainable agreement can be reached.
Lozano is determined to arrive in top competitive form for the 2026 World Cup and is open to returning to Spanish football. The winger already proved himself in Europe during his stints in the Netherlands and Italy, competing in high-level leagues.
With PSV Eindhoven, he played nearly 100 official matches before earning a move to Napoli, where he became a regular contributor in the squad rotation. That background supports his profile as a marquee signing for Oviedo.
With the World Cup calendar approaching, Lozano is prioritizing a project that guarantees playing time and visibility. Negotiations are ongoing, and the player is seriously considering the Oviedo option. Should the deal move forward, the Spanish club could reshape its attacking plans and push other transfer targets into the background.
