Bayern Munich, the leaders of the Bundesliga, suffered a shocking 2–1 defeat to FC Augsburg on Saturday, bringing an end to their historic unbeaten run in the German league. The loss came on Matchday 19 at the Allianz Arena, where the Bavarians had enjoyed complete dominance throughout the season.
Bayern took the lead in the 23rd minute through a goal from Hiroki Ito, but Augsburg staged a remarkable comeback in the second half to claim all three points.
The equalizer arrived in the 75th minute courtesy of Arthur Chaves, and shortly afterward Han-Noah Massengo scored the decisive goal to seal the upset. Augsburg had not won a match in Munich for 11 years, making the victory even more significant.
The defeat snapped Bayern’s impressive 27-match unbeaten streak in the 2025–26 Bundesliga season, during which the club recorded 16 wins and two draws across the first 18 matches of the campaign.
Head coach Vincent Kompany admitted the loss was a tough blow for the team, although Bayern still holds a comfortable lead at the top of the standings. Despite remaining in first place, the Bavarians’ unbeaten run is now a thing of the past. Even with the setback, Bayern maintains a sizable advantage over their closest challengers and must now respond quickly as the pressure to secure another German title intensifies and the Bundesliga enters its decisive stretch.
