FC Barcelona officially confirmed this Thursday the injury suffered by Pedri, one of the club’s key midfielders, after he was forced off during a UEFA Champions League match due to physical discomfort. The announcement immediately raised concern among fans, given the midfielder’s importance in the Blaugrana system.
In an official medical statement, Barcelona reported that Pedri has sustained a muscle injury to the biceps femoris of his right leg. The club indicated that the Spanish international will be sidelined for several weeks, with an estimated recovery time of around one month, depending on how he responds to treatment. As a result, Pedri is expected to miss crucial matches in both LaLiga and European competition.
The injury represents a significant setback for head coach Hansi Flick, as Barcelona enters a decisive phase of the season with a demanding fixture schedule. Pedri’s absence will force tactical adjustments in midfield, as he is one of the team’s primary sources of creativity, balance, and ball progression. His vision, movement, and ability to break defensive lines make him particularly difficult to replace.
During his recovery, Barcelona is likely to rely on players such as Dani Olmo, Gavi, or Frenkie de Jong to fill the void and maintain competitiveness across all competitions. The club plans to manage Pedri’s rehabilitation carefully, prioritizing a full and safe return to action to avoid any risk of relapse as the season reaches its critical stretch.
