Leclerc Sets the Pace on Day 2 of F1 2026 Bahrain Testing as Reliability Issues Hit Rivals

Updated: 5 days ago

Charles Leclerc led the timesheets on the second day of Formula 1’s 2026 preseason testing in Bahrain, delivering a strong early signal for Ferrari ahead of the new campaign. The Monegasque driver posted a benchmark lap of 1:34.273, a time that remained unbeaten throughout the day’s running.

Lando Norris finished second for McLaren, continuing the team’s positive momentum after topping Day 1, while rookie Oliver Bearman impressed by placing third for Haas. Norris also completed the highest mileage of the day, logging nearly 150 laps as teams focused on long-run simulations and reliability programs.

The session was not without drama. Several teams encountered mechanical issues, with Mercedes and Red Bull facing power unit and reliability problems that limited track time for some drivers. Multiple red flags interrupted the afternoon, underlining the challenges teams face while adapting to the new season’s machinery.

Despite the setbacks, most teams accumulated significant mileage, using the day to refine setups and gather valuable data as preparations continue for the 2026 Formula 1 season opener.
