Cristiano Ronaldo Misses Open Goal as Al Nassr Suffer First Defeat in 12 Matches

Updated: Jan 3

Cristiano Ronaldo endured a rare and frustrating night as Al Nassr suffered a 3–2 defeat against Al Ahli, ending their 12-match unbeaten streak in the Saudi Pro League. The loss not only cost them momentum at the top of the table, but also delivered one of the most shocking moments of the season when the Portuguese superstar failed to score with the goal completely at his mercy.

With 957 career goals and the historic milestone of 1,000 goals looming closer than ever, every clear chance matters for Ronaldo. Yet against Al Ahli, the football simply refused to cooperate. Al Nassr arrived riding ten straight victories and a recent draw, but the match slipped away early after Ivan Toney struck twice to put the hosts in control.

Just before halftime, Abdulelah Al Amri pulled one back to make it 2–1 and reignite hope. Al Nassr pushed forward after the break, looking to reassert their dominance with Ronaldo leading the attack. The turning point came in the 60th minute when João Félix burst down the right wing and delivered a perfect cross into the six-yard box.

Ronaldo was completely unmarked, facing the goal with time and space — the kind of chance he has converted hundreds of times throughout his legendary career. But in a moment that stunned the stadium, he failed to control the ball cleanly, allowing the goalkeeper to smother the chance. His reaction said it all: hands on his head, disbelief etched across his face.

Moments earlier, Merih Demiral had scored Al Ahli’s third goal, meaning Ronaldo’s miss would have made it 3–3 and potentially rescued a vital point. Instead, the miss became the defining image of the night and sealed Al Nassr’s first league defeat in 13 matches.

The result leaves Al Nassr stuck on 31 points, now at risk of losing their grip on the Saudi Pro League summit. For Ronaldo, the mission is clear: bounce back quickly, rediscover his scoring touch, and continue the relentless chase toward one of football’s most iconic records.
