Club América Drops Liga MX Femenil Lead After Late Draw vs Monterrey in Clausura Matchday 9

Club América surrendered the top spot in the Liga MX Femenil standings after settling for a 1–1 draw against Monterrey in a demanding Matchday 9 clash of the Clausura tournament. The Mexico City side took the lead early but failed to close out the match, allowing their rivals to equalize late and shift the balance in the title race.

América struck first in the 34th minute when a corner kick resulted in an own goal by Daiane Santos. The play gave Las Águilas control of the match, as they dominated possession and dictated the tempo throughout much of the first half.

After the break, the home side increased its attacking intensity and created several clear scoring opportunities. However, poor finishing prevented América from extending the advantage, keeping Monterrey alive as confidence grew for the visitors with time running down.

The equalizer arrived in the 82nd minute following a costly mistake during América’s build-up play. Forward Lucía García recovered the ball inside the penalty area, dribbled past goalkeeper Sandra Paños, and calmly finished with her left foot to level the score.

Drama continued in stoppage time when Scarlett Camberos received a red card, leaving América with ten players for the closing moments. Despite being down a player, the hosts pushed forward in search of a winning goal, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

With the result, Monterrey climbed to first place with 23 points, while América stays close behind with 21. The Mexico City club remains firmly in contention for the Liga MX Femenil Clausura title in what continues to be a highly competitive season.
